Procol Harum is arguably the most successful "accidental" group creation -- that is, a band originally assembled to take advantage of the success of a record created in the studio -- in the history of progressive rock. The silliest claim was from an old friend who thought it meant, "Without women"; in other words, 'men only'. Their name is a Latin phrase thatâs roughly translated as âbeyond these thingsâ. AWSOP has just kept on skipping the light fandango, its success and influence surviving the band that made it, and many of the movers and shakers that made it happen. They even had a couple more British hit singles, but split (for the first time) in 1977. They released ten albums before breaking up in 1977. PROCOL HARUM was one of many groups in the late 1960s who succumbed to the influence of psychedelia and - lacking any other model - imitated Bob ⦠Buy Procol Harum.
